It has taken the world by storm, and it\u2019s grabbed the attention of both children and adults alike. But how popular is the game? Also, where does the future lie with Pok\u00e9mon GO and can it be utilized?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s Very, Very Popular<\/u><\/h4>\n

Millions of people are wandering around the streets trying to \u201ccatch \u2018em all\u201d.\u00a0Within a week of release, Pok\u00e9mon GO has attracted over 21 million users. It has just launched in Germany and hit No.1 on the iPhone revenue chart in just three hours. Across the pond, it took 13 hours to hit the top of the US charts\u00a0and has penetrated a daily user level of 10.81% in just 4 days after its debut.<\/p>\n

In other words, Pok\u00e9mon go is very popular. In just its first week it had a higher daily user penetration level than Twitter. It\u2019s the latest digital sensation and by the looks of it, it will get even bigger once it\u2019s officially released in Canada.<\/p>\n

Why Is It So Popular?<\/u><\/h4>\n

But the question on many people\u2019s mind is \u2018Why is this so popular? It\u2019s just paper toss with Pok\u00e9mon.\u2019 What people don\u2019t realize is that it\u2019s not the game itself that is so popular \u2013 it\u2019s the social aspect.<\/p>\n

Pok\u00e9mon GO is doing something that no Pok\u00e9mon game has done before it \u2013 it\u2019s getting people to go outside. If you haven\u2019t quite caught up with how the game is played, it\u2019s essentially like Google Maps infused with Pok\u00e9mon. You download the game, create your character and watch as he walks around a GPS map of your city. Where ever you go, he\/she goes. Inside of this GPS you\u2019ll find Pok\u00e9mon pop up when you go near them. It then transfers to an augmented reality battle where the Pok\u00e9mon is right in front of you. You then toss Pok\u00e9balls at the Pok\u00e9mon to catch it. Catch multiple and you\u2019ll get \u2018candies\u2019 which allow you to evolve certain Pok\u00e9mon as you collect them.<\/p>\n

The reason the game gets so addicting is because it adds the element from previous Pok\u00e9mon games of feeling the need to \u2018Catch \u2018Em All\u201d. The game has 150 Pok\u00e9mon to collect. As you level up, rarer Pok\u00e9mon will become available to you. The only way to level up of course, is to catch more Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n

Of course, with anything that becomes popular, it gains some controversy. Pok\u00e9mon go has most recently made headlines for Auschwitz having to remind people it\u2019s \u2018disrespectful\u2019 to play Pok\u00e9mon GO at the former concentration camp.<\/a> In another instance, Pok\u00e9mon GO has been used to lure people into armed robberies<\/a>. However, for the most part, people are loving the fact that this new viral app encourages exploration, and gets people active!<\/p>\n

The Future of Pok\u00e9mon GO<\/u><\/h4>\n

The best part about Pok\u00e9mon GO is that there is more to come that will make it an even better experience. Soon, the app will add support for trading between players and leaderboards<\/a> to see how you stack up against other players.<\/p>\n

However, what\u2019s even more exciting is the rumors that there will be an opportunity for businesses to take advantage of the app. Businesses may be able to place gyms or certain Pok\u00e9mon at their places of business. This will encourage more people to walk into their businesses, as getting people\u2019s feet in the door \u2013 even if it\u2019s only for Pok\u00e9mon \u2013 can capture people\u2019s attention toward the business and its offerings.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s some merit to these rumors. It\u2019s been confirmed through searching through the apps code that Pok\u00e9mon GO is partnering with McDonald\u2019s<\/a>. A source has said that as part of the partnership, every McDonald\u2019s in an undisclosed country will be either a Pok\u00e9Stop where you can get items\u00a0or a gym where you battle Pok\u00e9mon. This gives merit to the rumor that other businesses will be able to do the same \u2013 if one business can do it then it opens the opportunity for others!<\/p>\n

One way businesses have already been utilizing it for business is by using lures. Lures are an item you can receive within the game which you place on the map resulting in Pok\u00e9mon being attracted to those areas. Businesses can purchase these items from the shop and place them at their business. This will get loads of foot traffic to the business and is especially effective if your target market is within the younger demographic.<\/p>\n
